In a series of revelations, the Lord Jesus entrusted St. Faustina Kowalska (+1938 in Kraków) to urge humanity to deep and unwavering trust in Divine Mercy.
The Novena to Divine Mercy, which Jesus commanded her to write and perform before the Feast of Mercy, begins on Good Friday and ends on the Saturday before the 2nd Sunday of Easter. This Sunday is the Feast of Divine Mercy. The novena recorded in St. Faustina's diary was first printed in Kraków in 1937, a year before the saint's death.
The Lord Jesus said to St. Faustina: “I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the source of my mercy, that they may obtain strength and refreshment and all the grace they need in the difficulties of life, and especially at the hour of death. Each day you will bring to my Heart a different group of souls and immerse them in the sea of my mercy. And I will bring all these souls into the house of my Father. You will do this in this life and in the life to come. And for every soul you bring to the fountain of my mercy, I will not deny anything. Each day you will ask my Father for graces for these souls through my bitter passion.”
The novena consists of a simple prayer of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. However, in Sister Faustina's Diary, an extended novena is recorded, which the Lord Jesus dictated for her. We also provide it here for those who wish to pray the novena in this extended version.
